Cross-Cultural Outreach Opportunities at SELC

Mexico - Agua Prieta - Every winter we go into the poorest part of A.P.just across the international border from Douglas, AZ and through the Ladrillo Project we build a simple shelter. (Last year we built two!) Work is done on Saturdays. We really need someone to lead this work.

Pictures from recent projects.

Lithuania - Through the Grand Canyon Synod we partner with the Lutheran Church in Lithuania. Our sister parish is in Klaipeda. The Pastor is ReinholdasMoras. Please visit their web site at: http://www.liuteronai.lt/index_ang.html. We are looking for people who would like to nurture this relationship through email, prayers and maybe even a visit. (Klaipeda is a beautiful city on the Baltic Sea. Contact Pastor Pike.

Senegal - Our Synod's second Companion Synod Program is Senegal. Three Phoenix area Lutherans visited there in January, 2003. Once again, we are looking for people to nurture this relationship at SELC.

Guyana - We give financial support to Pastor Richard Young who is an ELCA missionary in Guyana. Three members of SELC have visited there and Pastor Young came here in July, 2003 while he was on home leave. Here again we are looking for people who are led to nurture this relationship. Contact: Dotti Wellman.

Rock Point, AZ - The ELCA supports a school at Rock Point that has 63 students. There is a thrift shop there too. Doctors, nurses and dentists go there to volunteer their services as well. For years the Women of SELC has sponsored a student. We were part of a hogan building project in August, 2003. Members of SELC who can tell you more are Judy Pike, Rich and Linda Radwick, Marty and Judy Huffman and Dave Dechant.

With guests from Central African Republic, Austria, Germany, Illinois, Phoenix and Tucson, 9 members of SELC went to Rock Point, AZ and worked with Navajos from our Lutheran Mission to build a Hogan for an elderly couple.
