Blessing of the Backpacks  BACKING UP WITH BACKPACKS . . . Backing up kids and educators is not a once-in-a-lifetime job.Sunday, August 7th, 2011, was Backpack Sunday sponsored by Sierra Evangelical Lutheran Church, a congregation that has been presenting students hundreds of backpacks for the last nine years. This year’s worship service will took place at 9:00 a.m. at Bella Vista Elementary school with a pot-luck brunch and games following. Students brought their own backpacks to the worship service to receive a special blessing. Educators also attend the blessing at Bella Vista Elementary School as they prepared to go back to the classrooms. 270 backpacks filled with school supplies were given to the local schools that identify children in need. Everyone enjoyed delicious food at the pot-luck brunch following the service. Games included a piñata, fish pond, board games, jumping castle, face painting, and more.
